Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Our Beautiful Daughter

Today seems to be the day of doubt and the feeling of defeat for so many and for different reasons. For our family it is financial crunch time as the hubby works for the RV Company, called Keystone, which is shut down for 2 weeks for the 4th of July. For others it may be personal reasons I cannot share.

Friday June 26, 2015 many were celebrating the fact that same sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states, however, for the Bible and Jesus believing Christians it is a huge set back for our nation.

It grieves me to think how many people think that being gay and or homosexual is quite normal, even people who claim to be a Christian or attend church. How does it make God our Father, the creator of the world and author of the Bible feel?

Many places in the Bible it is quite clear that living a homosexual life is a sin. It is not a bigger sin than any other sin, however, still a sin. How can Christians turn their eyes against God and his word? How can they say drinking and or drug use is wrong and a sin and yet agree to the homosexual lifestyle simply because they know the person. Yes love that person and it is the greatest commandment, however not the sin.

“Praise You in this Storm” by Casting Crowns came to my mind Friday morning and “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” to my sister while she was at work.

Our family, a big family with 10 siblings, was raised going to church and believing in God the Father, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ the son. It has gotten us through many a hard time and I often wonder how others do it without a faith-based life.

Newsboys Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Now, while the song she first remembered was the old hymn we once sang in church, Turn your eyes upon Jesus, the Newsboys a few years back, took that song and gave it an up beat and even a better song. Many will be familiar with the old hymn; however, in case you do not know the words, here are the lyrics to follow along with the You Tube video.

Our family has undergone test and trials, however, we know where to place our trust, turn our eyes and give praise, do you?

Bible Believing Christian and Proud of It

My favorite Bible verse Proverbs 17:17

Last night on Facebook, I was shocked at a post I saw that was criticizing Christians, the Bible and essentially God. As our pastor has taught us, our sin has separated us from God, we need mercy, and heaven forbid we all need mercy and grace as we all will not make it to Heaven, Hell is a real place.

I digressed, back to the Facebook post, it started out like this: "What bugs you about facebook? there are many things that bug me but the one thing that really bugs me is the people who make comments based on what the bible says, and then quotes scriptures."
This same person has had some major events happen in her life and not all for the good. I have seen her talk about gods, little g, not the one and only wonderful living God, although she quotes scripture.

My original comment to the post was, “I quote the Bible all the time, it is to be our source. It tells us to hide it's words in our hearts.

She did not comment on what I said, however, to the lady agreeing with this writer she posts, “lately people are commenting back to me in threads with scriptures. they cannot form their own sentence in their own words, they have to quote the bible...it is not natural...they are stepford bible pushers and well god says love your neighbor but golly these bible pushers are the first ones to throw the stone at gay marriages...I don't get it...how is that love????...I am just annoyed with it all.

By the time I found the new testament verse that answered why Christians do not agree with gay marriage there were several other comments all agreeing with her. I posted the scripture and you would have thought I had personally attacked another woman that is gay, however, I did not know this, therefore, it was no personal attack I was simply answering why as a bible believing Christian we cannot agree with it.

Now, I have family and friends that definitely believe differently than I do, however, we have agreed to disagree in love. I kind of thought it was the same this way, however, it was very obvious by the comments made it is not.

Therefore, I stepped out of the conversation, while mean and nasty comments kept rolling in. I sent a private Facebook message to the women saying in lieu of making a bad situation worse I think it is best to un-friend you, I continued to add, “I try to live my life as a Christian which means reading the Bible and attempting to live the best I can. It also means sharing the Bible. I did not say I hated gay people, as I have family that is gay. Do I have to love the sin while loving the sinner, NO! I also am NOT ashamed of being a Bible believing Christian.

With that said, have any other Bible believing Christians felt attacked lately? If so how have you handled it?

Mercy Me: Dear Younger Me

I read a very interesting post on Facebook this morning about Mercy Me and the lead singer Bart Millard. At one time, he was just ready to quit the band, chuck it all in. Personally, I am glad that did not happen as Mercy Me has had some tremendous music since 1994.

You can read the full story of Mercy Me and Bart Millard on NewSound in Christian Rock:

While reading a bit of information that I had never heard before, Bart talked about his rough childhood, I cannot say mine was rough; however, we all make mistakes we wish we could have a do over for. He is a songwriter therefore composed a song for the band to sing.

I am not a singer songwriter but have often had similar thoughts and had to remind myself that God and is infinite love, mercy and grace will forgive all your past mistakes. All you need to do is simply ask him too. Do you need to ask forgiveness and then move on? What kind of song would you write to and for yourself?

1 John 1:8-9; NIV If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

I loved Mercy Me's, "Dear Younger Me" and wanted to share with you. If you enjoy it, share my post so others can hear it too.

Sorry It's Been So Long

I am sorry it's been so long in-between posts, on top of the usual dial-up connections issues I've had a set back with my vision. Apparently the first weekend in June I suffered an eye stroke, no clue a person could even do this, however, I am one of the unlucky ones.

You can read one of my adventures on Bubblews called Reduce the Stress in Your Life or
Eye Had a Very Frustrating Day or How Do You Handle Misunderstandings

However, I will not let it rest there. I know I serve the God of healing and praying for full recovery. The doctors may say there is nothing they can do, but my God is mighty and nothing is impossible for him.

How is your Mood on this Last Sunday in May?

My question to all Bubblews writers and RedGage people; how is your mood on this last Sunday in May? I am setting here, at the summer cottage, alone as predicted and at times, the silence of the solitude can be deafening.
The weather forecast is one that could be very discouraging, however, at this moment in time the sky is blue with shattered clouds The rain and thunderstorms are to move in later tonight so for Memorial Day Monday, with all the celebrations around could be dampened.

For me, however, while I should be getting articles written, reading done and pictures posted to RedGage my mood is a blue as the still sky.

I see families on boats, I see fishermen with their poles in the water just reeling in fish after fish. I am reading post after post on Facebook where grandmothers are enjoying the company of not only their children but also their grandchildren. You can read in Proverbs, the very wise chapter in the Bible many things about families. Here is a great verse; Proverbs 17:6; NIV, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”

While I am aware this is satans attack to defeat, I simply refuse to stay in this frame of mind. Our God is mighty to save and he will never leave me; therefore, I need to stop dwelling on what cannot be, and focus on the beauty around me.

Happy May 26, 2013

Kristin and Eric Larrew's Wedding

Dave and Kristin
On September 1, 2012 my grand daughter, Kristin Schwartz was united in marriage to Eric Larrew. With Hurricane Isaac hitting Louisiana forcing heavy rains to head north, the planned outdoor wedding made the Facebook pages with a late breaking news bulletin. The Larrew wedding was now being re-planned and headed indoors.
Z putting down feathers

Our 3-yr old grand daughter was the feather girl.  Instead of going up the aisle just once, she did it a couple of times. She knew she had an important job to lay down the feathers so Kristin would have soft things to walk on. She would have kept going if I had not stopped her. She had plenty of feathers left.

Kristin looked beautiful as her dad, David Wayne Schwartz 11, my son-n-law; walked her down the aisle of the Martinsville Church of the First Born.

The Big Kiss

As Eric and Kristin shared their first kiss, the whole congregation looked on and cheered. The wedding, despite the weather and change of venue, was great.

Here for the first time is  Mr and Mrs. Eric Larrew.

Dewart Lake Visit

My visit this weekend to the Dewart Lake summer cottage in Syracuse Indiana, proved once again to be critter filled. This is only a portion of the animals I saw. It is truly amazing to watch God's beauty.

As my husband was leaving he looked up in the tree and there sat the pair of eagles by their nest. I can not help myself I had to grab the camera, to me the viewing of the eagles never get old.

God’s Beautiful Gift of Flowers

Have you ever thought how we use God’s beautiful gift of flowers in so many ways? Who doesn’t love a vase full of fresh cut flowers from the garden setting on the kitchen table? Flowers with meaning tattoos are artistically displayed, on breasts, sides, backs, wrists and legs.

We use flowers types for weddings, whether in the spring, summer, fall or winter.  Flowers for weddings in December incorporate ivy or flocked evergreen as well as your favorite flower.
Flowers names for kids are quite often used. I myself used Jasmine for my daughter’s name back in 1980 way before it was popular.
Unfortunately, the opposite side of birth is death, and we choose flowers for funeral meaning and the loved one that passed away.
This Easter Sunday many white stargazer lilies or calla lilies will be displayed in churches everywhere.

John 19:30 “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “it is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

Don’t lose heart, that is NOT the end of the story, Jesus died for us, however, was resurrected on the 3rd day and ascended to heaven to be seated on the right side of our father.

Flowers with Meaning Tattoos

When thinking of flowers with mean tattoos, for many the image of a women with a rose tattooed on her somewhere comes to mind. Tattoos themselves, can be small or large, black/grey shading or colorful ink. It is all in the discretion of the man or women purchasing the tattoo and of course, the tattoo itself plays a big part in the deciding factor. When the Germans were tattooing identification numbers on the Jews in the concentration camps it doubtfully they were real concerned of the beauty of the tattoo, moreover, the controlling factor of the Jews that were imprisoned. When sailors were getting tattoos of their ships, girlfriend/wife, snakes, knives or anchors, they were primarily grey scale with a tad of color and much more cartoonish than they tattoos the tattoo artists are artistically doing today. Even a flower, such a rose, for a sailor, might be flat lacking the depth and shading.
The definition of a tattoo according to Wikipedia is, “A tattoo is a form of body modification, made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. The first written reference to the word, "tattoo" (or Samoan "Tatau") appears in the journal of Joseph Banks, the naturalist aboard Captain Cook's ship the HMS Endeavour.”

Flowers with meaning tattoos can be a variety of flowers. Roses, Jasmine, Cherry Blossom, Hibiscus, Sunflower, Lily or any flower that represents the person you are.
There is no rule about tattooing it can be a single flower, group of flowers or a flower entwined with vines. Flower tattoos are OK for men too. Many times men will get a tribal tattoo and incorporate a floral design. It is also common practice to have a flower and a cross or dagger design.

Up the Side Tattoo:

With this flowers and meaning tattoos, it is a large tattoo going from breast to hip. For the young woman it means, “I got the roses for their beauty and their strength. It’s a reminder that I’m a strong and beautiful Christian woman. There is a verse from Romans intertwined in the vines. The verse talks about not being quick to anger. I use to have a temper and was quick to anger the verse reminds me to keep my self in control and not to let my anger control me.”

Tattoos from Wild Streak

Flowers with meaning tattoos, according to this middle-aged woman; “I got my tattoos when I was 30 years old. I was definitely old enough to make that decision and hopefully knew what I was doing. I found out that even as an adult you don’t always make wise decisions. My husband and I went thru a bit of a wild streak and I ended up with 5 tattoos in 2 years. I now go to church but they are ok with the artwork. I don’t regret the tattoos however, I would have made them smaller and I would have picked things that had meaning to me instead of what looked good at the time. My daughters were at least 20 and wanted to get tattoos. I didn't tell them it was a bad idea. I told them that if they were going to get them to at least make them small, make sure that the tattoo had some significant meaning to them, and because they didn't no what there careers were going to be to place the tattoos in places that clothing could cover them if they needed to dress more modest. I am now 16 years older and if I were to do anything different it would be the advice that I gave my daughters”

Shoulder Tattoo

Flowers with meaning tattoos, according to this woman; “It really doesn’t mean anything. I wanted a tattoo, and thought it was pretty and would be neat to have my name in the ribbon. I wished I would have had the boys names added on.”

Lower Back Tattoo

Flowers with meaning tattoos for this young woman, who happens to be the author’s daughter; "For me, getting a tattoo was about honoring my name, family, and becoming an adult. I have always loved my unique name. Some how my mom knew at birth that it would suit me perfectly throughout my life. I am fortunate enough to have an artist for a brother, who at the time was also doing tattoo art. So the minute I turned 18 (my mom said no ink before then) we got to it! I love my tattoo and will cherish it, my family, and my name forever."
According to the gardenguides.com Jasmine means, “Use Jasmine as a religious offering or altar decoration. It is the symbol of divine hope in the Hindu religion. The Balinese people plant jasmine in their public and private temples. Also, the Siwaratrikalpa, an ancient Javanese text, states that jasmine should be used as an offering to Ciwa, the native Javanese name for God. A common girl's name, it comes from ancient Persian and means, "gift from God."”

Lily

I have at least 3 different varieties of Lily’s growing in my yard. This particular variety I dug up from my mom and dad’s property after mom passed away. I do not know the variety; if anyone could help me out with this information, I would appreciate it.
According to Wikipedia, “Lilium is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs. Most species are native to the temperate northern hemisphere. They comprise a genus of about 110 species in the lily family (Liliaceae). They are important as large showy flowering garden plants. Additionally, they are important culturally and in literature in much of the world. Some species are sometimes grown or harvested for the edible bulbs. The species in this genus are the true lilies. Many other plants exist with "lily" in the common English name, some of which are quite unrelated to the true lilies.”
Flowers are a gift from God, please take time to enjoy them.

Good Friday and Easter

On Good Friday and Easter keep in mind that we serve a risen savior! Isn't that the best news you could ever hear? It is for me, without Jesus Christ the son of God there is no hope. So while some choose to hang colored eggs from the trees, that supposedly come from bunny's, keep in mind the empty cross and all that it represents.

  • Our sins
  • Our pain
  • Our shame

 Luke 24:36-44 (NIV)

Jesus Appears to the Disciples
While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.  He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.
He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

God Hates Divorce Not His People

I heard it said by James Robison God hates divorce not people; he hates the actions before hand that leads to the divorce. Kind of makes you think, doesn’t it? How many people think God will strike them dead for the sins they’ve committed, that this sin is too big and can never be forgiven? Our God is a loving God that created us in his image. How could he hate us? However, the Bible does say God hates divorce. Go grab your bible we are going to look up a couple of verses.
