Snowy Day in April

The calendar tells us that April 9, 2016 is spring; however, looking out the window this morning, it looked as if winter had returned in full force.

Not looking at the clock, I am trying to remember, approximately 1 pm or so the sky was blue, the snow had stopped and it looked as if all was OK. I am glad I did not hold my breathe as only a short time later, the snow had started falling hard once again. It did that several times throughout the morning.

By 4 pm the sky was indeed blue, most of the snow melted, even at a mere 30 degrees, and I was outside taking photographs of the lovely spring flowers.

The hyacinths look and smell fantastic, however, the daffodils little heads were drooping from the cold rain, ice/sleet and snow they had endured this week. The still look lovely and I am hoping the sun that is now shining and is to shine tomorrow will perk them up.

April 9th in Northern Indiana has been quite interesting, how is the weather in your neighborhood?

Frozen Fog and Beautiful Indiana

I woke up this a.m. to a frigid Indiana day and the temperature was -2 degrees. As I do every morning, I checked my email and Facebook postings and saw the neighboring town has school delays.
I was confused as of why since it was not snowing, therefore I asked. It was due to the frozen fog on trees, weeds, buildings, cars and streets. Frozen fog can make for dangerous traveling conditions, however, made such lovely photographs.

Frozen plants and field.

I hope you agree with  me that on this frigid Indiana day, the frozen fog looks so pretty.

Indiana is in a Frigid State

Brrrr is the feeling here in Northern Indiana. We started January 8th 2015 with -11 degrees with the promise of reaching 10 degrees, however, at 2:00 p.m. it is still actual temperature of -1 and the wind is 5 mph with gusts of 21 mph making the wind chill far below that.

Today’s Homecare client called off today as the schools were closed, therefore, she assumed too cold for me. I offered to clean tomorrow, however, the forecast is much better; therefore, I am not sure and probably will not know until tomorrow a.m. if I am to work.

I took the opportunity to stay home and be somewhat lazy; I stayed in my pajamas, watched a movie, Television and clean a little. I did not hit the gym even though I could have as the roads are clear and I should have. I really had intended to get on the exercise bike and I still might.

I have barely peaked my nose outside today. I only opened the door enough to let my dog and out and to take a picture of the water bowl as I could not believe my eyes. It is so cold my dogs heated water bowl cannot keep up and it is even somewhat protected from the winds.

Technically winter is only a couple of weeks in, however, many such as me are longing for spring.

For all you readers in warm places the Midwest is jealous as it is frigid in the state of Indiana.

Safely Home from Kentucky

Z acting like the Statue of Liberty
I was in Kentucky east of Louisville this last week for our granddaughter’s grandparent’s day for kindergarten. School was closed on Monday as they had a band of wet heavy snow go through, however, nothing compared to the lake effect snow Buffalo saw.

We here in Northern Indiana get the same lake effect snow, however, our area was missed this go round which made me very happy since I had to travel north. I cannot imagine getting that much snow so early and all at once.

Praise Jesus, I made it in record time and home safely on a chilly and extremely windy, however, sunny day. The bummer of it all is, I thought my hip pain was getting better with the Diclofena the doctor prescribed as well as the MSM I took all week. I do not know if it is the cooler temperatures, lack of exercise, diet or setting on my butt for hours on end, or old age, but my first rest stop was quick and painful and has not eased up yet.

Z ready for school in her new coat
Therefore, I am home, attempted to resume my normal schedule this morning by hitting the gym, and only made 3 miles on the Elliptical. It is a start after being off schedule for a week. Prayerfully next week, I will be as good as new.

For now, I am thankful to have made a round trip to Kentucky to see my girls safe.

My Granddaughter Happy and Sad

Monday is supposed to be a school day, our granddaughter had a new outfit to wear and we woke up to snow. She was unaware of mom sneaking in and turning off the alarm and the fact she had slept in or that snow had indeed fallen overnight as the weatherman had predicted.

She leaned over the bed with a big smile and said I love you grandma. I had a rough night of sleep; therefore, I was trying to sleep in while I could.

I got up and pulled back the certain to show her the snow. She was happy for the moment in the fact she did not have to hurry to move, but then said, oh, I hope they don’t cancel grandparent’s day tomorrow. I hope not too as I drove over 5 hours south just to be here for the day.

If they would have it Wednesday instead of Tuesday, I would still be OK as Thursday a.m. I have to head back north and work Friday.

It has been a day of games with happy and sad moments all mixed together.

Snow Snow and More Snow

My husband's footprints
Yesterday March 5th we had pretty much green grass trying to show. OK as it is still winter, it wasn't really green, however, it was not snow covered. Then yesterday late afternoon, everything changed.

My truck has drifts surrounding it
When it started to snow it cut loose and really snowed. It was tiny flakes, however, it was a wet and heavy packable snow.
look at all this white st
Look how many inches we got.

Oh boy!!! I am so ready for spring and sunshine!

Drip drip drip

I do thank God it was 31 degrees and very little wind.Even the icicles were dripping so maybe winter will be ushered out of Indiana soon.

Snow Drop Flowers:Tiny yet Beautiful

Snowdrop flowers are as a ray of hope, for all in the colder climates, that winter is ending and spring is right around the corner.
The snowdrop flower is actually a winter flower that peeks there little heads up even if there is snow on the ground.
Snowdrops are tiny little flowers so trying to get a unique, yet lovely photography, can be challenging. I hope you agree with me that I have succeeded in getting at least one good one.
Now if the winter in Indiana would actually end and springtime weather gets here.

Road Trip to the Lighthouse on Lake Michigan

Afternoon sunset
On Thursday January 24, 2013, I went on a small road trip to the lighthouse on Lake Michigan with my niece. It is less than a one-hour drive, however, the amount of snow on the ground there with the winds coming off Lake Michigan was a huge difference compared to here.

Frozen railing

The beauty of the ice on the pier, the railing, the ice covered light on the end of the southern pier as well as the ice covered lighthouse on the northern pier was a site to see.
Water splashing
It is awesome to see the flowing water as it splashes up against a frozen chunk making it even larger each time it hits and freezes. Also amazing is watching the ice bob up and down when the waves come in. If it had not been for the cold temperatures, I could have sat down and watched that for quite some time. However, the pier being snow and ice covered was not inviting to my butt. It was not the type of weather, where you set on the pier, dangling your legs and put your feet in the water.
Crazy kayaker
Isn't it angelic looking?

One kayaker did not view the cold water in the manner I did, as he was out there paddling his kayak around in the freezing water. At one point he perched himself on a big chuck of ice, at first I thought he was there inviting me to take his picture but then realized he was taking a moment for a photo op of the ice covered lighthouse. He was definitely going to get a different vantage point from all the others we saw that day.

Ice covered Lighthouse.

If you get an opportunity to take a road trip this winter viewing the Icy Lighthouse on the St. Joseph River/Lake Michigan, in St. Joseph Michigan is beautiful.
