Valentine’s Day Heart Craft

Adults and kids are alike in the fact that they love Valentine’s Day. You will be able to find heart shapes from crafts to chocolate. As a child we gave valentine cards away, we even made some, however, where did you store them? Of course, a heart shaped Valentine’s Day cardholder. Hearts are fun to make and receive, so be creative, find that inner child hiding inside you, make yourself a Valentine’s Day heart craft.

Supplies needed to make a Valentine's Day Heart Craft:

  • Brown grocery bag/heavy craft paper
  • Plain paper for heart pattern
  • Black marker
  • Paper punch
  • Yarn or ribbon
  • Glue
  • Heart shapes of various sizes
  • Glitter
  • Newspaper

Instructions to make a Valentine's Day Heart Craft:

Step 1: Using a sheet of plain paper, draw a heart pattern onto it to use. Cut it out.
Step 2: Lay the heart shaped pattern onto the brown grocery bag or heavy craft paper. Trace the heart with a black marker.
Step 3: Cut though both layers of the grocery bag to get two hearts.
Step 4: Using the hole punch, punch holes through both layers in an even pattern all around the edge of the heart.
Step 5: Loop the yarn or ribbon in the holes you punched. When you have threaded the yarn all the way around; put a spot of glue on both sides to hold the ends of your yarn from pulling out.
Step 6: Either drawing your own heart shapes from red construction paper, or using a computer program make heart of different sizes. Cut out your heart shapes and glue them on the heart cardholder.
Step 7: Spread the newspaper out for the messy part. Trace the edges of the hearts with glue and sprinkle glitter on them. Shake off the excess glitter onto the newspaper. Look to see if there are any bare spots that need touched up with a little extra glue and glitter.
Step 8: Making heart shaped Valentine’s Day cardholders are fun and easy. Be creative and make one for yourself, child or grandchild. If you want extra fun, actually make a heart cardholder with your child or grandchild.

Plastic Jug Snowman Craft

She is concentrating on that glue
I do not know where this craft originated, however; I saw it on Facebook. The snowmen they featured were made with a plastic gallon milk jug. The first effort making the snowman was with my granddaughter at our daughter’s home in Kentucky while mom and dad had a date night.

My granddaughter was tired and not in a really crafty state of mind so hers was fairly plain. I made a few suggestions, however, it was plain to see she was not in the mood to craft.

Snowman and granddaughter smiles.
After I returned home, I decided to make my own snowman using a plastic milk jug, then I noticed in the recycle bag I had 2 other plastic containers so decided to make a snowman family.

Our Granddaughter's snowman
After assembling my snowmen, I then thought they would make great porch lights. Since I was decorating for Christmas using Christmas tree lights only seemed natural.

They really do make a nice light on my porch. Try making your own plastic jug snowman, it's a craft anyone can do.

Birthday Family Fun

Loves her mommy!
Missing our daughter’s 33rd birthday was something that saddened me, however, the winters in Indiana and driving 6 hours south for the first time by myself frightened me.

Oh what a surprise it was one week later when she surprised us by making her first trip north with my 4-year old grand daughter. It was not because of her birthday it was for her dad’s, which was one week later.
Saying birthday cheers with cheese!
My son had already been invited to come for dinner for his dad’s birthday; he knew she was coming, so he popped in with the grandsons. It was a tad noisy but oh, what a great noise it was!

Grandpa, son and grandchildren

Another surprise for my nephews, we all got together for breakfast at the local restaurant the following Saturday. That was part of our kid’s plans, which we did not know about, until the girls arrived.

Scrap wood project
While the girls spent a couple of days with us, our grand daughter wanted not only snuggle time but the crafty time her and mom do at home. She wanted to make something with wood, scrap wood would be fine, however; we had to scale down what she actually wanted to build. She had in her mind to build a tree house. We convinced her to do something smaller so grandpa and Zeely made a bookshelf.

To end our good, quality, fun family time we met, at our son’s home, after church Sunday. We celebrated the upcoming 5th birthday of my grandson.

Crochet Dishcloths and Save Money

Crocheting can be relaxing for some, and a very good way to save money by making household items such as dishcloths, dishtowels, pot scrubbers, crocheted potholders or crocheted photo frames. Most items can be made with a few basic crocheting stitches such as single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch.
