Snowy Day in April

The calendar tells us that April 9, 2016 is spring; however, looking out the window this morning, it looked as if winter had returned in full force.

Not looking at the clock, I am trying to remember, approximately 1 pm or so the sky was blue, the snow had stopped and it looked as if all was OK. I am glad I did not hold my breathe as only a short time later, the snow had started falling hard once again. It did that several times throughout the morning.

By 4 pm the sky was indeed blue, most of the snow melted, even at a mere 30 degrees, and I was outside taking photographs of the lovely spring flowers.

The hyacinths look and smell fantastic, however, the daffodils little heads were drooping from the cold rain, ice/sleet and snow they had endured this week. The still look lovely and I am hoping the sun that is now shining and is to shine tomorrow will perk them up.

Frozen Fog and Beautiful Indiana

I woke up this a.m. to a frigid Indiana day and the temperature was -2 degrees. As I do every morning, I checked my email and Facebook postings and saw the neighboring town has school delays.

 I was confused as of why since it was not snowing, therefore I asked. It was due to the frozen fog on trees, weeds, buildings, cars and streets. Frozen fog can make for dangerous traveling conditions, however, made such lovely photographs.

I hope you agree with  me that on this frigid Indiana day, the frozen fog looks so pretty.


                       

My Granddaughter Happy and Sad

Monday is supposed to be a school day, our granddaughter had a new outfit to wear and we woke up to snow. She was unaware of mom sneaking in and turning off the alarm and the fact she had slept in or that snow had indeed fallen overnight as the weatherman had predicted.

She leaned over the bed with a big smile and said I love you grandma. I had a rough night of sleep; therefore, I was trying to sleep in while I could.

I got up and pulled back the certain to show her the snow. She was happy for the moment in the fact she did not have to hurry to move, but then said, oh, I hope they don’t cancel grandparent’s day tomorrow. I hope not too as I drove over 5 hours south just to be here for the day.

If they would have it Wednesday instead of Tuesday, I would still be OK as Thursday a.m. I have to head back north and work Friday.

It has been a day of games with happy and sad moments all mixed together.

Instructions on Folding and Cutting a Paper Snowflake

Snowflakes with glitter are so pretty and easy to make. After all, when you look out at your yard after a coating of fresh snow it glistens just like glitter.   Reach down inside and find that kid that still resides in you make some paper snowflakes and add a touch of glitter.

Folding and cutting a paper snowflake was something we did as kids. If you are like me, you have totally forgotten how to do it. No big deal, there are Google sites to remind us. So be a kid again, fold and cut a paper snowflake.

Since I am paper snowflake challenged, I actually had to go to the internet and do a Google search for snowflake patterns to get me started, if you are like me you may have to do the same.  After you find a pattern, print it out or use a plain piece of paper.
 
Fold your paper in half the long side. Then fold it in half the short side. Make a triangle shaped fold in your paper, and keep folding it over, it will take 3 or 4 folds. Now if you are snowflake challenged as I am, start with the pattern you printed from the internet.
Cut out the shaded parts they’ve give you. If you are the artistic type, draw an outline on your folded paper and cut it out. When you unfold it, you will have a paper snowflake.

Things you will need for folding and cutting paper snowflakes:

• Paper
• Scissors
• Pattern
• Internet connection, optional 
• Glitter
• Elmer's glue
• Snowflake Pattern
• Scissors
• Newspaper; for the Mess

Instructions to glitter paper snowflakes:

1. Sprinkle on the glitter very generously and shake the excess onto the newspaper. It may be necessary to apply a second coat of glitter or fill in spots that need it.
2. If you do specialty type snowflakes like the Holly pattern above, use green glitter and add 3 spots of glue in the center and sprinkle on red glitter for the berries. There also are patterns for snowmen and Christmas trees, use the appropriate colored glitter for the snowflake pattern you choose.
3. Glittered snowflakes are good to display hanging from your Christmas Tree, windows or decorating gift bags. Don’t be afraid to think like Martha Stewart, be creative when design and glittering your snowflakes.
