Hot Toddy Recipe: Great for a Cold

I had my first hot toddy before I was of legal age to drink. My future mother-in-law saw my head and sinus’s were aching from the pressure of a nasty cold. She made me  the hot toddy and then told me to go straight to bed and cover up. I woke up with my head clear from the mucus that was clogging it. I followed her advice and it worked for me, so I thought I’d pass it on for you to.

Supplies for the Hot Toddy Recipe: Great for a Cold

  • Shot glass
  • Real Lemon juice 1 shot
  • Whiskey 1 shot, your favorite brand
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Warm cover
  • Bed

Instructions to make the Hot Toddy Recipe:

1)    Heat a teapot of filtered drinking or steamed distilled water.
2)    Using a glass or mug, pour the honey in it while waiting the water to heat.
3)    Pour heated water in the glass to dissolve the honey.
4)    Add 1 shot of real lemon concentrated juice, name brand does not matter, I found it at the grocery stores and dollar stores.
5)    Add 1 shot of whiskey; whichever brand you prefer, I know some like Jim Beam, Crown Royal or Southern Comfort. I take whatever my husband brings home. Knowing him, it is probably the cheapest whiskey on the shelf.
6)    Sip on your hot toddy and settle in for the evening. You can do this in bed or on the couch watching TV. Cover up to keep the heat from the drink inside you.
7)     Wake up feeling rested and so much better.

The hot toddy recipe: great for a cold; is just that, great for cold and sinus pressure. However, if you over consume you might wake up with a headache for a different reason.

Indiana is in a Frigid State

Brrrr is the feeling here in Northern Indiana. We started January 8th 2015 with -11 degrees with the promise of reaching 10 degrees, however, at 2:00 p.m. it is still actual temperature of -1 and the wind is 5 mph with gusts of 21 mph making the wind chill far below that.

Today’s Homecare client called off today as the schools were closed, therefore, she assumed too cold for me. I offered to clean tomorrow, however, the forecast is much better; therefore, I am not sure and probably will not know until tomorrow a.m. if I am to work.

I took the opportunity to stay home and be somewhat lazy; I stayed in my pajamas, watched a movie, Television and clean a little. I did not hit the gym even though I could have as the roads are clear and I should have. I really had intended to get on the exercise bike and I still might.

I have barely peaked my nose outside today. I only opened the door enough to let my dog and out and to take a picture of the water bowl as I could not believe my eyes. It is so cold my dogs heated water bowl cannot keep up and it is even somewhat protected from the winds.

Technically winter is only a couple of weeks in, however, many such as me are longing for spring.

For all you readers in warm places the Midwest is jealous as it is frigid in the state of Indiana.

Sorry I have been Busy on Bubblews

Sorry it has been so long since I have written anything. My incentive kind of crumbled when I was not actually making money through Amazon.

I have not posted anything on Seekyt either so I didn't need a backlink. In essence I just got lazy this winter.

This winter has been frigid cold and causing me to become dormant. In my dormant state I post articles on Bubblews and upload photographs to RedGage where I attempt to make some money. With Bubblews it is a slow process, however, I am earning, with RedGage not so much, but I do love taking photographs so it gives me an outlet to use them.

Road Trip to the Lighthouse on Lake Michigan

Afternoon sunset
On Thursday January 24, 2013, I went on a small road trip to the lighthouse on Lake Michigan with my niece. It is less than a one-hour drive, however, the amount of snow on the ground there with the winds coming off Lake Michigan was a huge difference compared to here.

Frozen railing

The beauty of the ice on the pier, the railing, the ice covered light on the end of the southern pier as well as the ice covered lighthouse on the northern pier was a site to see.
Water splashing
It is awesome to see the flowing water as it splashes up against a frozen chunk making it even larger each time it hits and freezes. Also amazing is watching the ice bob up and down when the waves come in. If it had not been for the cold temperatures, I could have sat down and watched that for quite some time. However, the pier being snow and ice covered was not inviting to my butt. It was not the type of weather, where you set on the pier, dangling your legs and put your feet in the water.
Crazy kayaker
Isn't it angelic looking?

One kayaker did not view the cold water in the manner I did, as he was out there paddling his kayak around in the freezing water. At one point he perched himself on a big chuck of ice, at first I thought he was there inviting me to take his picture but then realized he was taking a moment for a photo op of the ice covered lighthouse. He was definitely going to get a different vantage point from all the others we saw that day.

Ice covered Lighthouse.

If you get an opportunity to take a road trip this winter viewing the Icy Lighthouse on the St. Joseph River/Lake Michigan, in St. Joseph Michigan is beautiful.

Cold Indiana Winters

Preparing for winter weather can sometimes be challenging in Indiana. Winter months can be cold or even sub zero, add in western winds and it can make it extremely hard to keep the pipes from freezing.
My advice is to stay prepared for any weather, but especially, severe winter weather.  I do not know how the winter months are in your area, however, the cold temperatures that Indiana has been having is not fun.

  • Of course, the obvious is stock up on canned goods. If you can get things that you can eat without cooking is the best.
  • Purchase cans that have either pull tops or have an old-fashioned can opener like the one I use everyday. If there is no emergency your pantry is stocked up, no harm no foul. You never know when a storm is going to hit whether it be a blizzard, ice storm, frozen water lines or just a storm that sends your electric out.

This week the temperatures in Northern Indiana have dipped below zero and our cold water line to the bathroom did lightly freeze. Therefore having plenty of bottled water on hand was necessary.
