Decorah’s Bald Eagle Nest: Live View

Photo I took at Dewart Lake
On Facebook today, our daughter sent me link to a live feed of a bald eagle setting on the nest. She knows we have bald eagles at our summer cottage at Dewart Lake, therefore, she knew I would be interested. When I logged in approximately 4 p.m. the wind was howling ruffling the eagles feathers and momma eagle was setting on the nest. I thought I saw 2 eggs.

I have watched the feed long enough now the sun is casting shadows blurring the pictures, however, dad had brought a late lunch back to mom that she seemed to be ignoring until daddy came back and at that point I saw one egg and 2 babies.

Here in Indiana it is now 8:23 p.m. and dark; however in Iowa it is 7:23 and sun still shining. Honestly, I find watching this feed, far more interesting than most television programming. It makes me long for summer days and watching the bald eagle at our Dewart Lake cottage.

Dark Chocolate Mousse Made with Avocado’s

Recently while watching The Doctors Television Show, Dr. Travis Stork lectured and tutored the very overweight 9-year old Honey Boo Boo and her mother on how they could eat healthier yet it would still taste good.

Dr. Travis tricked Honey Boo Boo into tasting the healthy dark chocolate mousse before telling them the recipe contained the very healthy avocado.
1 cup of avocado contains a mere 240 calories and chucked full of fiber, pantothenic acid, vitamin K, cooper, folate, vitamin B6, vitamin E, vitamin C and potassium. Adding cocoa powder along with the avocado and it will have your taste buds doing a happy dance.

Mercy Me: Dear Younger Me

I read a very interesting post on Facebook this morning about Mercy Me and the lead singer Bart Millard. At one time, he was just ready to quit the band, chuck it all in. Personally, I am glad that did not happen as Mercy Me has had some tremendous music since 1994.

You can read the full story of Mercy Me and Bart Millard on NewSound in Christian Rock:

While reading a bit of information that I had never heard before, Bart talked about his rough childhood, I cannot say mine was rough; however, we all make mistakes we wish we could have a do over for. He is a songwriter therefore composed a song for the band to sing.

I am not a singer songwriter but have often had similar thoughts and had to remind myself that God and is infinite love, mercy and grace will forgive all your past mistakes. All you need to do is simply ask him too. Do you need to ask forgiveness and then move on? What kind of song would you write to and for yourself?

1 John 1:8-9; NIV If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

I loved Mercy Me's, "Dear Younger Me" and wanted to share with you. If you enjoy it, share my post so others can hear it too.

How to Dye Easter Eggs with Your Children or Grandchildren

Easter is a wonderful part of springtime. It is not just Easter eggs and Easter bunnies; it is when Jesus Christ rose from the grave for us. Why not take the tradition of dyeing Easter eggs and the story of Jesus’ death on the cross and living again and put them together. My grandson and I enjoyed our time and sharing. I will show you how to dye Easter eggs with your grandchildren.
John 20:1 Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Supplies needed to dye Easter eggs with your Grandchildren:

Food Color and Vinegar
  • Eggs
  • Food color/Egg dye
  • Vinegar
  • Newspaper
  • Paper towels
  • Vinyl gloves
  • Spoon
  • Containers
  • Crayon
  • Lots of Patience

Instructions to dye Easter eggs with your grandchildren:

My grandson wrote on the eggs with the crayon
1)    First thing to do is to check to make sure you have everything you will need. You will need eggs, crayons, food color/egg dye, vinegar, spoons and something to guard your table from stains.

2)    Place the eggs in hot water and boil for approximately 5 minutes. Boiling to long will not hurt them any.

3)    Remove the eggs from the stove and pour off the hot water. Run cold water over them to cool off so you can handle them.

4)    It is now time for the vinegar and food color/egg dye. I used measuring cups, I used 1 cup of vinegar and just kept adding drops of food color until I got the color I wanted.

5)    It is VERY important when working with your grandchildren to protect the surface of the working station. Take newspaper and lay it down. Place the cups of Easter egg colors on the newspaper. Still even more protection may be desired, so lay down some paper towel for the Easter eggs to drain on.

6)    If you want to add words or design on your Easter Eggs get a crayon. Your grandchildren may not be a real artist, however, that is OK, it is to be a teaching tool while you are having fun; however, it will take some patience.

7)    Have your child/grandchild wear vinyl gloves to protect their hands. You do not want to have a rainbow colored child. Have them put the egg in the color of their choice.
Let the egg set in the food color for a minute or two to get the desired color. When it is time to come out have them take the spoon and guide the egg to the top of the cup and then they can take the egg off the spoon and put on the paper towel.

8)    Keep repeating step 6 until you have dyed all the Easter eggs.

For best success, explain to grandchild what you are doing before you start and prepare for a mess! Explain to your grandchild that Jesus Lives and that is what Easter is all about, dyeing Easter eggs is simply fun.

Making Newspaper Planting Cups: Recycle and Reuse

Last February as the husband was cleaning and throwing things away, he came across a couple of gardening books and magazines. Some tips in this book were so simple and been around for as many years as I have, if not longer, yet they published as a new idea.

As the hubby was reading, he would laugh out load, and then say this is something a child would be able to do; however, he then came across this idea to make newspaper-planting cups and you would be recycling and reusing. What a great idea, really it is and oh so good not to share with all you gardeners.

Follow the newspaper folding tip; staple and you are good to go. Start using your newspaper planting cups by adding potting soil and the seeds of choice. When the seedlings are ready to transplant into the garden soil, there is no need to remove the newspaper cup, as it will break down in the garden.

Wow, how much easier could it be to get started planting your garden seeds? Make newspaper-planting cups, recycle and reuse.
