Lavender in a Bucket

As I was pulling weeds around my lavender, I accidentally broke off a sprig so I instinctively put it in a bucket of water to see if it would take root. The birds have landed on the edge of the bucket numerous of times and enjoyed the water, I have to admit, I'm not sure I want to plant it or leave it in the bucket to view when I walk outside my door.
According to UMM.edu, "The name lavender comes from the Latin root lavare, which means "to wash." Lavender may have earned this name because it was frequently used in baths to help purify the body and spirit."

I love the smell of lavender whether it be the essential oil or the plant itself. I find it very soothing.
After I accidentally pulled up the lavender sprig, I inserted some into my Himalayan Salt Lamps. It not only looks nice but gives off a bit of a fragrance too.

Himalayan Salt Lamps

A Himalayan Salt Lamp I made

Himalayan salt lamps come from the foothills of the 250 million-year old Himalayan Mountains. Rock crystal salt deposits are carved into healing lamps. They have been around for a while; however, they are now making their way to our small town.
I personally have eaten and used Himalayan salt for my dry eyes since the beginning of 2010. I enjoy the taste of Himalayan salt and heard that it consist of 84 living minerals and elements, therefore, so much better for you than any other type of salt.

Rhonda Williamson introduced Connie Gill, the owner of Bremen Curves for women, to the Himalayan product line and salt lamps as a way to help her husband’s painful hands and an additional way to supplement her income and enhance the lives of the Curves women. However, not taking what Connie and her husband had to say as gospel, as I am a doubting Thomas in nature, I pursued looking into Himalayan salt lamps for myself. Already being a user of Himalayan salt, I wanted to know more about its healing benefits.

When I made my Himalayan salt solution for my eyes, Hilde Bschorr was extremely helpful, so I reached out for her to learn more about the salt lamps. According to Hilde, the owner of Himalayan Living Salt, “One of the benefits for which salt lamps are known and valued is the production of natural negative ions, creating an effect similar to being at a beach, standing next to a waterfall, or using a manmade ion generator. When the lamp becomes warm, it absorbs moisture and the crystal becomes damp on the surface. This binds negative ions with the excess positive ions, neutralizing the positively-charged atmosphere of a room.”

Still curious, my sister and I made arrangements to talk to Rhonda Williamson, the owner of Himalayan Salt Creations. While talking to her, it was obvious of her passion for Himalayan salt lamps and Himalayan salt in general. Her physical store, Himalayan Salt Creation, is located in Warsaw Indiana; however, she does have a website where you can purchase Himalayan salt lamps and other Himalayan salt product. The advantage of visiting her store is you can see the unique Himalayan lamps for first hand. The Himalayan salt lamps vary in shapes and sizes from a small heart to a jumbo rock formation. If you are a lover of cats, she has it, or if you want a symbol of Christ’s death, she also carries the cross in 2 completely different patterns.

I asked Rhonda why she got into the Himalayan salt business and this is what she said, “When I got sick 5 years ago, I had a hard time understanding what my future would be because of my Lupus and Fibromyalgia. I prayed about it all the time but wasn't getting any answer. Actually, I wasn't paying attention. It was my illness that allowed me to learn about the salt and then it was very clear. The lord wanted me to help others by educating them about the salt and showing people how to use the salt naturally to feel better. It was truly a blessing because I have been able to help so many people feel better.” She continued to say, When you purchase a lamp, the first thing you want to do is measure the room it will be in. The lamp that you purchase should be the right size for the room. You can never have too many negative ions or too large of a lamp. The biggest mistake is buying a lamp based on price rather on buying the proper size for your room and your health problems. For example, if you have moderate to severe allergies, asthma or sinus problems, then you want to purchase a lamp that is suitable for the size of your room or larger. You can get a lamp that is too small for a room, but you can never get a lamp that is too big.”

Dr Mercola explains what Himalayan Salt Lamps do:

·       Attracts humidity causing the surface of the salt crystal to become moist
·       Creates a buildup of ions and removes moisture from your air
·       Binds excessive positive ions with their negative ions
·       Helps to neutralize the “electro-smog” in your air and reduces allergens and irritants
·       Creates potential soothing effects for you from multi-colored salt crystals

I had a hard time deciding on what to purchase as every time I turned around I saw another Himalayan salt lamp I liked. I would venture to say, no matter if you choose to purchase a Himalayan salt lamp from a health store near you, or from a website; there is a Himalayas Salt Lamp in a design or shape sure to please anyone.

Have you been introduced to Himalayan Salt Lamps yet? Curious after seeing Rhonda's salt lamps, I made arrangements to talk to Rhonda Williamson, the owner of Himalayan Salt Creations. Abundance Bowl from Rhonda's store

Rhonda told me, if you place an order after you read my article let her know and she will keep track and compensate me in product of some kind. That makes me smile as I love eating Himalayan salt and the lamps.

Homemade Gluten-Free Noodles

Homemade popeye noodles and chicken
As a child our mother taught us how to make homemade noodles, we called them Popeye noodles. It simply is an egg noodle that is a little thicker than the ones purchased in the store and cut into squares.

Dewart Lake Visit

My visit this weekend to the Dewart Lake summer cottage in Syracuse Indiana, proved once again to be critter filled. This is only a portion of the animals I saw. It is truly amazing to watch God's beauty.

As my husband was leaving he looked up in the tree and there sat the pair of eagles by their nest. I can not help myself I had to grab the camera, to me the viewing of the eagles never get old.

Pair of Eagles at Dewart Lake, Syracuse, IN

Taken April 27, 2012

Momma and Daddy eagle set so proudly in the tree. It is amazing to watch them as I come to my cottage to work and relax.

Sat proudly looking May 4, 2012

As I am doing things around the cottage I would frequently walk to the drive to peak to see if the eagles were around. Sure enough first thing Friday morning, the eagle sat proudly looking around.
Soaring overhead

In the afternoon I sat on our deck writing articles for TopicSpotter, Seekyt and Triond; and seriously trying to focus on work at hand, however, seeing the pair of eagles soaring over head made it hard. Sorry I could not seem to capture them both in the same frame.
Just caught food for the little ones

Again, standing talking to the neighbor he's telling me about what time the eagle catches his food, my camera on the steps below on the deck, I missed it with the camera but not with my eyes. We heard the squawks of the birds and looked up to see the massive eagle taking off with food in hand. I then went to the area to see the tree and there he sat. At least I think it's he. I can't tell them apart.
May 4th, 2012

I zoomed the lens in as far as I could to try to capture the movement I saw. Bummer still don't see the little ones. Oh well we have all summer to do updates.

Mango Salsa Recipe_without cilantro

My photograph of Mango Salsa
If you like the taste of mangoes and want to try a new recipe, this recipe will do the trick. Mangoes are on sale in the local stores this week. Limes and Mangoes are packed full of vitamin C so infusing their tastes makes sense.
Mango salsa recipe-without cilantro is a great tasting recipe packed full of vitamins and minerals. Cilantro is an herb that has a flavor many find to be a bit too strong, however many Mexican recipes call for it. Mango salsa is definitely a recipe that is full of wonderful flavors all of its own, and does not require the strong, somewhat offensive taste of cilantro. Try making this mango salsa recipe without cilantro to accompany lime chicken dishes, or use on your burrito or taco’s.
Wiki answers inform us, the tropics, such as Africa, South-East Asia and India are where mangoes are grown. They also tell us they come from Australia; however, they omit Mexico produces and ships mangoes to the U.S.A.
The mango is a power packed fruit of Vitamins C and A, they also are a great supply of potassium, therefore combining the mango with ginger, lime and red peppers to this make mango salsa recipe one healthy vitamin packed recipe.
In ¼ cup of lime juice there is a mere 15 calories and 46.7 % vitamin C. According to World’s Healthiest Foods, “limes are an excellent source of vitamin C, one of the most important antioxidants in nature. Vitamin C is one of the main antioxidants found in food and the primary water-soluble antioxidant in the body. Vitamin C travels through the body neutralizing any free radicals with which it comes into contact in the aqueous environments in the body both inside and outside cells. Free radicals can interact with the healthy cells of the body, damaging them and their membranes, and also cause a lot of inflammation, or painful swelling, in the body.”
Therefore infusing the tastes of mangoes and lime will make this mango salsa recipe have a one two punch in vitamin C defense for our bodies.
