Our Cold Winter Walk

A little sunshine
Oh my goodness, I just got back from a 40-minute winter walk with Po. Since he is going in for surgery tomorrow, I thought he would like it, and he did.

Off for our walk

The sun was shining when I made my decision at the gym to use my warmed up legs for the hike; however, the sun went away and that wind was nasty making it feel so cold on my face.

Headed down the path.

Sniff sniff

Yes we were heading right into the wind and I nearly changed my mind, however, knowing it would be a couple of days before Po would want to take a walk I braved it out. It was not easy as Po stopped many times to sniff around. We have walked that path with Dad and Hope; our 10 year old Eskimo Spitz, and he would stop and look around to see if they were lagging behind.

Sun through the dark clouds.

With him stopping to sniff, it gave me time to take a few photographs, and turn my back to take a bit of the chill off my face.

Our home way back there!

My feet were OK, however, I should have double layered my legs and arms. Part of the way back to the creek, I even wondered if I shouldn't have put Po's jacket on him.

Fast forward, today is cooler, roads icy, however, the sun is shining and very little wind. I accomplished a lot while Po was at the doggy doctor, however, kept thinking how he would have enjoyed a walk again today.

We got the call from the vet, Po came through the torture, I mean surgeries, just fine. However, since he was morphined when I got the call, he was not up and moving.

When we have to take Po back in 2 weeks for his check up, I bet it will be a battle.
Po is in pain

Indiana is in a Frigid State

Brrrr is the feeling here in Northern Indiana. We started January 8th 2015 with -11 degrees with the promise of reaching 10 degrees, however, at 2:00 p.m. it is still actual temperature of -1 and the wind is 5 mph with gusts of 21 mph making the wind chill far below that.

Today’s Homecare client called off today as the schools were closed, therefore, she assumed too cold for me. I offered to clean tomorrow, however, the forecast is much better; therefore, I am not sure and probably will not know until tomorrow a.m. if I am to work.

I took the opportunity to stay home and be somewhat lazy; I stayed in my pajamas, watched a movie, Television and clean a little. I did not hit the gym even though I could have as the roads are clear and I should have. I really had intended to get on the exercise bike and I still might.

I have barely peaked my nose outside today. I only opened the door enough to let my dog and out and to take a picture of the water bowl as I could not believe my eyes. It is so cold my dogs heated water bowl cannot keep up and it is even somewhat protected from the winds.

Technically winter is only a couple of weeks in, however, many such as me are longing for spring.

For all you readers in warm places the Midwest is jealous as it is frigid in the state of Indiana.

October at Dewart Lake

October at Dewart Lake is extremely quiet. There is very little water activity. There are a few die-hard fishermen that like to fish, and I have seen a few birds, squirrels and crazy looking frog.

However, for the most part the weekend visitors have packed it in. The neighbor to our left actually has his windows are plastic over so I doubt they will return.

With a busy crazy summer, I did not get to the cottage as much as I desired and the when I did get here, many of the days were less than desirable. In August it went to extremes of needed all the windows open and the fans on to needing the propane heater turned on, I expected that this October weekend, however, not in August and September.

This maybe my last weekend at the summer cottage for 2014, unless I sneak away one more time before winterizing it. The winters in Indiana can be rough and winter of 2013-14 was down right brutal making visits nearly impossible. In addition, many of the neighbors have called it a season and it is very quiet and almost lonely here.

This weekend, I have talked to no one, from my living room window I did see an elderly couple that live here year round, they were walking lakefront just checking things out.

It is a breezy and chilly 55 degree day but the sun is warm therefore I have tried to enjoy as much as I can. I am a sunshine girl and really not looking forward to winter.

From Dewart Lake, In Northern Indiana,  I bid you farewell.

Sorry I have been Busy on Bubblews

Sorry it has been so long since I have written anything. My incentive kind of crumbled when I was not actually making money through Amazon.

I have not posted anything on Seekyt either so I didn't need a backlink. In essence I just got lazy this winter.

This winter has been frigid cold and causing me to become dormant. In my dormant state I post articles on Bubblews and upload photographs to RedGage where I attempt to make some money. With Bubblews it is a slow process, however, I am earning, with RedGage not so much, but I do love taking photographs so it gives me an outlet to use them.

Cold Indiana Winters

Preparing for winter weather can sometimes be challenging in Indiana. Winter months can be cold or even sub zero, add in western winds and it can make it extremely hard to keep the pipes from freezing.
My advice is to stay prepared for any weather, but especially, severe winter weather.  I do not know how the winter months are in your area, however, the cold temperatures that Indiana has been having is not fun.

  • Of course, the obvious is stock up on canned goods. If you can get things that you can eat without cooking is the best.
  • Purchase cans that have either pull tops or have an old-fashioned can opener like the one I use everyday. If there is no emergency your pantry is stocked up, no harm no foul. You never know when a storm is going to hit whether it be a blizzard, ice storm, frozen water lines or just a storm that sends your electric out.

This week the temperatures in Northern Indiana have dipped below zero and our cold water line to the bathroom did lightly freeze. Therefore having plenty of bottled water on hand was necessary.

Having Fun with Your Children on a Snowy Day

Having fun with your children or grand children on a snowy winter day is easy. It will be fun for all and will create lasting memories. Getting your children out of the house and into the fresh air isn't always easy, however, if you join them, they will be racing you out the door for some snow day fun.

Things you will need:

• Time (and a little patience)
• Snow, the more the better!
• Warm clothes
• Snow suits, hats, gloves and boots
• Sleds
