Exploring Northern-Central Kentucky

Greeted by Baby Girl
Since my husband is on vacation or shut down in the RV business we once again headed south to visit my daughter and family. My 3 1/2-year old granddaughter was counting down the days. Sis said she asked numerous times throughout the day about when we would get there. She came out greeting us with I love you grandma! Aw how it can melt a grandma's heart.

As it was so hot, we soon decided to cool off in the kiddie pool. Trust me, it was good enough for me, I cooled off.

Saturday morning we decided to explore KY. We headed to the Swope's Auto Museum in Elizabethtown first. It is an awesome free car museum. If you are planning a vacation this should be on your to do list. Here my husband is looking at the trunk saying his mom has one in the garage much like it. Of course baby girl had a hard time not wanting to touch all the cars however for 3 1/2-years old she did very well.

Here she is posing with my daughter or her mom. After the museum we headed to historic Bardstown KY. We started with a picnic and proceeded to walk to see the town. We did get warm so stopped to have a cone at Baskin Robbin's. As it was warm, Z's chocolate cone did not last long. She did get quite a bit of chocolate on her face.

Trail guide in tap shoes
Let's go!
Sunday after church, lunch, nap and Nascar race we decided to check out Taylorsville lake. When Z heard we were leaving she was ready to go tap shoes and all.  With her walking stick she points out we were on the red path. Trust me, she was looking for the red to keep us on track. She had one minor incident with the tap shoes putting her on her bum but did not let it stop her. She made a wonderful trail guide.
Walked 1.5 mile red trail and picked pine cones
Monday morning as we were packing up to leave, even though baby girl was reluctant, we stopped to look at the blue Morning Glory she planted from the seeds we purchased for her last trip south. Then I noticed she had grabbed the olive can and that's what she was eating for breakfast. Grandpa was spoiling her, by purchasing them and taking them, knowing she loved them.

She tried to stow away

Well heading home is rough, however, it has to be done. I didn't shed a tear in front of her as she didn't want us to leave or she wanted to go with us, but man my heart was breaking.

Grandpa and Grandma ready to leave!

Lavender in a Bucket

As I was pulling weeds around my lavender, I accidentally broke off a sprig so I instinctively put it in a bucket of water to see if it would take root. The birds have landed on the edge of the bucket numerous of times and enjoyed the water, I have to admit, I'm not sure I want to plant it or leave it in the bucket to view when I walk outside my door.
According to UMM.edu, "The name lavender comes from the Latin root lavare, which means "to wash." Lavender may have earned this name because it was frequently used in baths to help purify the body and spirit."

I love the smell of lavender whether it be the essential oil or the plant itself. I find it very soothing.
After I accidentally pulled up the lavender sprig, I inserted some into my Himalayan Salt Lamps. It not only looks nice but gives off a bit of a fragrance too.

Himalayan Salt Lamps

A Himalayan Salt Lamp I made

Himalayan salt lamps come from the foothills of the 250 million-year old Himalayan Mountains. Rock crystal salt deposits are carved into healing lamps. They have been around for a while; however, they are now making their way to our small town.
I personally have eaten and used Himalayan salt for my dry eyes since the beginning of 2010. I enjoy the taste of Himalayan salt and heard that it consist of 84 living minerals and elements, therefore, so much better for you than any other type of salt.

Rhonda Williamson introduced Connie Gill, the owner of Bremen Curves for women, to the Himalayan product line and salt lamps as a way to help her husband’s painful hands and an additional way to supplement her income and enhance the lives of the Curves women. However, not taking what Connie and her husband had to say as gospel, as I am a doubting Thomas in nature, I pursued looking into Himalayan salt lamps for myself. Already being a user of Himalayan salt, I wanted to know more about its healing benefits.

When I made my Himalayan salt solution for my eyes, Hilde Bschorr was extremely helpful, so I reached out for her to learn more about the salt lamps. According to Hilde, the owner of Himalayan Living Salt, “One of the benefits for which salt lamps are known and valued is the production of natural negative ions, creating an effect similar to being at a beach, standing next to a waterfall, or using a manmade ion generator. When the lamp becomes warm, it absorbs moisture and the crystal becomes damp on the surface. This binds negative ions with the excess positive ions, neutralizing the positively-charged atmosphere of a room.”

Still curious, my sister and I made arrangements to talk to Rhonda Williamson, the owner of Himalayan Salt Creations. While talking to her, it was obvious of her passion for Himalayan salt lamps and Himalayan salt in general. Her physical store, Himalayan Salt Creation, is located in Warsaw Indiana; however, she does have a website where you can purchase Himalayan salt lamps and other Himalayan salt product. The advantage of visiting her store is you can see the unique Himalayan lamps for first hand. The Himalayan salt lamps vary in shapes and sizes from a small heart to a jumbo rock formation. If you are a lover of cats, she has it, or if you want a symbol of Christ’s death, she also carries the cross in 2 completely different patterns.

I asked Rhonda why she got into the Himalayan salt business and this is what she said, “When I got sick 5 years ago, I had a hard time understanding what my future would be because of my Lupus and Fibromyalgia. I prayed about it all the time but wasn't getting any answer. Actually, I wasn't paying attention. It was my illness that allowed me to learn about the salt and then it was very clear. The lord wanted me to help others by educating them about the salt and showing people how to use the salt naturally to feel better. It was truly a blessing because I have been able to help so many people feel better.” She continued to say, When you purchase a lamp, the first thing you want to do is measure the room it will be in. The lamp that you purchase should be the right size for the room. You can never have too many negative ions or too large of a lamp. The biggest mistake is buying a lamp based on price rather on buying the proper size for your room and your health problems. For example, if you have moderate to severe allergies, asthma or sinus problems, then you want to purchase a lamp that is suitable for the size of your room or larger. You can get a lamp that is too small for a room, but you can never get a lamp that is too big.”

Dr Mercola explains what Himalayan Salt Lamps do:

·       Attracts humidity causing the surface of the salt crystal to become moist
·       Creates a buildup of ions and removes moisture from your air
·       Binds excessive positive ions with their negative ions
·       Helps to neutralize the “electro-smog” in your air and reduces allergens and irritants
·       Creates potential soothing effects for you from multi-colored salt crystals

I had a hard time deciding on what to purchase as every time I turned around I saw another Himalayan salt lamp I liked. I would venture to say, no matter if you choose to purchase a Himalayan salt lamp from a health store near you, or from a website; there is a Himalayas Salt Lamp in a design or shape sure to please anyone.

Have you been introduced to Himalayan Salt Lamps yet? Curious after seeing Rhonda's salt lamps, I made arrangements to talk to Rhonda Williamson, the owner of Himalayan Salt Creations. Abundance Bowl from Rhonda's store

Rhonda told me, if you place an order after you read my article let her know and she will keep track and compensate me in product of some kind. That makes me smile as I love eating Himalayan salt and the lamps.
